5 of George’s favorite WordPress plugins

3 Posted March 14, 2011 by George Categories: Tips and Tricks

Hello, tadpoles!

Last week we released a global update to all our themes, which allows you to hide the new WordPress Admin-bar, and this week we’ve got something different for you: some of my favorite plugins.

Let’s get right to it:

1. S3 Backup – A fantastic plugin for backing up your WordPress blog to Amazon’s S3 cloud storage, which is cheap as chips. The plugin allows you to select what you want to backup, schedule backups to happen daily, weekly or monthly, and the best part is, that once you’ve set it up and scheduled it, you have the security of regular backups, without lifting a finger!
Download.

2. Gravity Forms - Need a form on your website? Gravity Forms is a premium plugin aimed more at power users, but not only power users. The plugin will set you back $39, but trust George, the power and convenience it brings are worth 10 times that. Some of the plugin’s features are: Inline HTML content, Import/Export forms, Notification Formatting, Conditional Form Fields, Email Notification Routing, Enhanced Post Custom Fields and much more.
Purchase.

3. All In One SEO – We’ve punted this snazzy plugin in the eFrog Themes options panel since day one, and we still maintain that it’s a brilliant SEO plugin. All In One SEO offers everything you need to ensure that you have the SEO basics covered without complicating matters.
Download.

4. WP Typography – For those of you who want to enhance the look of your website, this will be a very handy plugin, allowing you to improve your website typography with hyphenation, space control, intelligent character replacement and even CSS hooks.
Download.

5. W3 Total Cache – This plugin improves the user experience of your site by improving your server performance, caching every aspect of your site, reducing the download times and providing transparent content delivery network (CDN) integration. George-speak: WHOOOOSH!!
Download.

There you go. Five of the best. Enjoy!

One of my all time must-haves is wp-dbmanager (http://rle.me/85) it allows you to keep backups of your database – the sites life blood. It keeps on-server copies (that are easy to restore) as well as emailing copies of your sites data.

This plugin saved my bacon a couple times. Once when my site was hacked and once when the client accidentally deleted all pages.
